Sharing the COREobstacles report with clients

Module 6 — Lesson 4

In this lesson you’ll learn:

  • How to share the results of the COREobstacles report with your clients

  • Helpful tools to navigate COREobstacles conversations

How to share the COREobstacles report

The report is easy to use and provides insightful discussion points for you and your clients. They can learn a lot about themselves by simply reading over the report on their own.

However, we believe it benefits both you and your client to have a deeper conversation about the results.

Prepare for the meeting:

Spend 5-10 minutes reviewing the report.

This conversation may involve addressing some of your client’s negative emotions around money, inheritance, and family relationships.

Remember, you’re not a therapist. Your job is simply to help them identify their obstacles, and provide them with tools and resources to minimize the impact on their financial plan.

Here are some tips to help you navigate this conversation successfully:

Rely on the report

The COREobstacles report has been designed to help guide this discussion and provide ideas for your clients.

Feel free to download the introduction pages below to understand the structure of the report.

For each obstacle, there is an individual page in the report dedicated to diving deeper into its results.

The Timeline, Manifestation, Example, and Potential Result section at the top of each obstacle page is there to help clients clearly understand how a specific obstacle might have entered their lives, and how it might be affecting them today.

At the bottom of each obstacle page, there are action points for the clients to consider. The suggestions help clients understand next steps.

Three Key Questions from the Paralysis Obstacle Page:

Every parent will have more peace-of-mind if they can provide their heirs with answers to the following questions:

  • What can I expect from being a part of this family?

  • What can I not expect?

  • What is expected of me?

The Conversation

As you talk with your clients, first help them see these obstacles as normal and addressable.

Use the following tips to navigate the conversation:

  • Look for similarities and differences among each member of the couple.

  • Are there areas of concern for both which need to be addressed?

  • Point out strengths one individual might have to help their partner overcome their biggest obstacles.

  • Create a COREobstacles Resource List so you can share resources with your clients based on their reported areas of concern. (Consider books, podcasts, courses, etc.)

The ultimate goal is freedom in financial decision making. Refer your client to the notes on the first page of the COREobstacles report which explain this integration of emotion, decision, and freedom.

"I believe my kids would be fine if I left them everything or even if I left them nothing at all."

As clients continue to address their obstacles and have conversations to align their family’s core values, goals, and relationships, they’ll find that they’ll have less concerns about the next generation’s ability to be self-reliant, self-sufficient, and productive.
