What is the COREobstacles report?

Module 6 — Lesson 2

In this lesson you’ll learn:

  • The basics of the COREobstacles report

  • How the COREobstacles report can help your clients overcome issues that may be standing in the way of successful inheritance

The COREobstacles report depicts with bar charts each client’s assessment of their level of concern over mistakes of the past, a lack of preparation for the present, and an unknown future.

With scores ranging between 4 and 20, higher numbers indicate a greater level of concern.

Scores are not intended for comparison, but rather to help spot potential roadblocks with the goal of addressing these areas with the appropriate tools.

To address these obstacles one must address the root problem, rather than merely managing the symptoms.

Together with your clients, you can objectively address potential roadblocks, increase understanding of each individual’s struggles, and engage in meaningful discussions.

During these conversations, you act as a mentor as you direct clients to the tools and resources to help them address these obstacles effectively.

Note: The COREobstacles report gives clients action points for each potential roadblock. The report empowers clients to learn about themselves and act on what they learn. Advisors do not need to provide the answers for the clients about how to overcome these obstacles: clients come up with the answers on their own. The advisor asks as a sounding board and guide.

The COREobstacles report can be used:

  • With established clients to allow for deeper, more meaningful discussions

  • With clients for whom you may have noticed roadblocks: Clients who are making reactive decisions, not following through with their assignments, or not making decisions at all.

  • To help clients who share feelings of concern over the future.

  • To effectively hear from both members of the couple, creating a relationship with each person individually.

  • To provide tools and direction to clients who need to move beyond their obstacles.
